Roofing almost done.

Rain was the forecast for Sydney this week, luckily the roofers didn't pay much attention to it and got most of the sarking and roof tiling done on Thursday and Friday.

Earlier in the week the brick cleaner was there in the wet weather doing his thing. Come to think of it they wear a raincoat to work everyday to clean the bricks so wet weather probably doesn't make much of a difference. Just more mud to deal with I suppose.

Anyway, we are really happy with the progress and are almost at a stage where the weather wont affect the building progress. :-)

As you can see the guttering and facia was done as well. We got "Woodland Grey"for guttering, same as the windows and for the facia we got "Dune" which will be the same as the garage door.
So all in all it was another big week. Even with the rain or threat there of.

We also found a possible mistake with one of the internal walls being a half wall instead of a full. (reading the plans we can see how it was made) But it should be fixed soon.

Bricking Complete

With the not so good weather we've been having the bricking was slowed down a bit. But we are happy with the results.
Next it's onto guttering, facia and roofing. (with Brick cleaning as well)

Scaffolding up.

This week saw the bricking progress and the scaffolding go up so they could complete the upper level of bricking.
There were a few too many chips on the bricks when they were delivered to the site. (something we were a little concerned with)
So our SS has ordered some more. Therefore bricking should be finished around next Tuesday.

One of the minor issues we have had has been around cavity sliding doors. We always wanted one in the home theatre, but due to a muck up in the tender it was not put into the frame. There was also an issue with the one we wanted in the laundry due to the placement of the pipes. (we also didn't want to sacrifice Laundry space to fit it in)
However Wisdom have come through and resolved both issues, which we are very happy about.

Talking of Wisdom they were also very good about letting us make some last minute changes to the electrical plan. We thought there was another stage where you can refine some of the lighting and switch placement. However when we realised no such stage was coming, we needed to make some quick changes, as seeing the house had underlined some better options for electrical item placement.

There usually is a late variation fee that they let us off this time, but I would suggest to anyone building, make sure your very comfortable with the plan early (we thought we were) and don't assume there will be an opportunity to change it later or that your builder will be so nice about it.

The coming next couple of weeks should see the guttering, facia and roof tiling done.

Hopefully the good weather holds. :-)

Bricking started.

No prizes for guessing what happened next on the build.
The brickies started this week.

They were there on Thursday but a couple of rain showers meant that they packed up early, essentially only getting one course of bricks around the house down.

On Friday they really pushed on. Pretty much all of the garage is done and around half way up the ground floor is done around the rest of the house.

The wife inspected the brickwork closely and is really happy with the quality of the workmanship.

On our last house which we built (with another builder) some of the bricking was a little slaphappy and messy. Had to drag them back to fix up a number of areas, but it does'nt look like we'll have to do much of that this time around. Good stuff Wisdom !

Looks like rough electrical is coming up soon. We have decided to make just a few changes to the electrical plan. Just moving of lights, no additions or deletions. Still we better get the changes in quick smart.

The schedule is to have bricking pretty much complete by the end of this week.

Crazy Tree Ride & View of Street

No news on the progress front. But here are some related pics.

As stated below, a few weeks back we bought a tree that we thought would look wonderful in the front yard.

We left it at the nursery hoping to borrow a trailer.
When that plan fell through, we had to come up with something else.
(didn't want to pay the delivery fee for a 10 min trip - gotta save the pennies for the house)

So as crazy as it sounds, we decided to utilise the car's sunroof. It was a slow trip home but we did it !

The other picture is a view of the street as suggested by Andy_Min. It will be interesting to see the street-scape change over the coming months and years.
